Words that do something.

A copy studio by DAVID ORMONDROYD

When building a brand, every word has a job to do.

To align a team, land an idea, define the perfect name, or move someone to act.

From positioning to concepting, naming to tone of voice, DO words partners with clients and agencies around the world to write what works.

POSITIONING

Before the lines, there’s the idea. I help shape the language that gives brands clarity and direction. Turning research, insight and instinct into that core positioning or creative concept. A brand is only as strong as the words it’s built on.

TONE OF VOICE & MESSAGING

What to say, how to say it and why it matters. This is how your brand is heard and remembered. I help teams speak as one, shaping brand voices and messaging that people understand, connect to and act on. Internally aligned. Externally sharp.

NAMING

Naming is hard. The good ones are often taken. And getting it right matters. I help find names that are distinct, meaningful and viable. With a process that’s creative, collaborative and proven.

HOW I FIT IN:

In tandem with your team.
Independent, efficient, ego-less.

In the room. On the zoom.
Collaborating with clients, strategists and designers.

In place of that big agency.
An agile, affordable, experienced alternative.

The DO in DO Words.

Since 2009, I’ve been making brands make sense.

I’ve worked with global companies, ambitious startups and award-winning creative studios. With my best work happening early, when the words can really define the direction. And some of my proudest? When getting the best out of others.

Before all that, I studied illustration, developing a conceptual way of thinking rather than a visual style. Which translated well into words and turned out to be quite useful in rooms full of graphic designers.

These days I partner directly with founders, strategists, CMOs and creative teams on the language behind brands.

I’m open to start-asap projects, longer partnerships and ongoing relationships. Anywhere there’s a smart, respectful team, a good problem to solve and a clear need for brand language that works.
